Saturday 6th January 2024- North Berwick

10 of us met at North Berwick last saturday morning. Weather conditions were good with a F2 from the west and some winter sunshine but a predicted swell of a metre. We launched from the west beach where the lifeboat slipway is being repaired and headed west . The swell ensured we kept clear of breakig waves over the skerries outside the harbour. The swell was present and at times more than a metre. Some of us negotiated the gap between The Lamb and the South Dog- Graham managed to catch a bigger set. Regrowth if mallow was evident on the lamb.

We headed on to Fidra and travelled around the north side well clear of swell. Once beyond Fidra we had thought of landing at one of beaches beyond Eyebroughty but there was considerable surf there. Surprising the beach at Archerfield beside the houses in millionaires row had minimal surf and we landed through a foot of surf at most with no capsizes. Lunch taken and a chance meeting with Nick Evers and his wife we got back on the water.

We returned to North Berwick quicker with tide & breeze behind us and chose to take in the north side of Craigleith. Incidentally the gap on the north side of the Lamb was a maelstrom of white ( no takers for that then).

Kayaking back from Craigleith to the harbour we managed to avoid a dingy race but were filmed by a drone put up to observe the race- footage can be seen here

Thanks to all participants: David G , Ruairdh, Catherine, Fiona, Graham, Andy, Dave B, Gerry and Claire
