Mallow Bashing Complete!

12 of us at last managed to get ourselves across to the Lamb in perfect sunny conditions to cut down the invasive species- tree mallow which destroys puffin nesting sites.

Landing was easy due to the beach showing at very low Spring tide, we rigged a running mooring and tied the boats up- and amazingly 3 hours later they were still there, floating diligently.

Beautiful warm sunny conditions, 12 fit, lithe, diligent paddlers set to- very obvious which bits we had not been to recently and we really are making an impact on this islet.

John Hunt from the Seabird Centre was there to wave us off, provide tools and greet us on return- he really has started something special in mobilising the recreational public towards active work in improving the ecology of our own back yard.

Mind you so did we,  there is not a bit of this plant raising its head above the puffin burrows! With  a noticeable lack of 3 tier cake stand, cake was guzzled less ceremoniously…. but with intent.

A very big thank you to the group-Angus, Richard, Matt, Claire, Maria, Mark, John, Graeme, Fraser, Nick Ow, Chris G- who despite my various cancellations and alterations turned out and did the business with a superb attitude- and a lamentable standard of humour. ( The mallow is not the only thing cut down to size on these outings!).

Our next talk on 21st March at the Dalriada will be about steps currently being taken to address plastic in the marine environment- topical and relevant!!
