LSKC run supported Pathway Paddles for new members with no or limited sea-kayaking experience and Grade A paddles for those with some prior experience who are developing their skills. These run on the third and first Sundays of the month respectively. It is recommended that all new members join a Pathway Paddle to meet club leaders before proceeding to a Grade A paddle or beyond. Details of the paddles are available on the members website, in the Calendar section. Note that new members with no previous paddling experience are required to join a training session at Musselburgh Lagoons in the summer, or pool sessions in the winter to ensure they are competent doing a ‘wet exit’ (fee chargeable for pool sessions).
New members with considerable existing sea-kayaking skills are welcome at the above or should liaise directly with day paddle or trip organisers to inform them of their experience level when they sign up for any activities.
Training/coaching skills are supported on supported paddles, by club run training activities and SCA approved courses provided by accredited club members.
A range of sea kayaks and accessories are available to for club members to hire and collect from the club containers at Swanston Farm or North Queensferry. Members will need their own car with a roof rack, kayak carrier and straps to transport a hired boat or arrange for help with this from other members.
