4th Feb – Fife Coast Anstruther to Elie
Fiona, Katerina, Louise, Charles, Marysia, Mari, Ian, Michael and myself met at Anstruther harbour on a bright chilly Sunday morning. We had a straightforward but fairly long carry to the water as it was close to low tide when we set off around 10.30. This was my first time paddling this bit of coastline and I enjoyed the beautiful views across the Forth to North Berwick and the Isle of May. (I was also enjoying the luxury of having warm, dry feet in my new boating shoes after a couple of very uncomfortable winter paddles).
There was very little wind, though some swell and after a pleasant paddle past Pittenweem and St Monans we landed on the large sandy beach at Elie harbour. After some lunch (and litter picking) we headed back the way we’d come, keeping a little way out from the coast at times where large waves were breaking on the shore. The tide was against us, which may have made the return journey seem further than the outward trip. The tide was well in when we arrived back at Anstruther around 3.30 so we had an easy carry to the car.
A perfect day out with great company. Many thanks to Fiona for organising and leading the paddle and keeping a watchful eye on everyone, much appreciated.
