After rumours of an open day at Longcraig abounded, our ‘A’ plan was swapped for a ‘B’ plan, meeting at South Queensferry. This plan was dashed when Dougie reported that the parking at South Queensferry was closed for use by a cruise liner. A ‘C’ plan was formed, but then Richard reported that actually there was nothing out-of-the-ordinary on at Longraig anyway – so the ‘C’ plan was ditched in favour of the original ‘A’ plan. Thanks to Dougie for letting me know a change in plan was in order, and Richard for pointing out that actually it wasn’t! Next time I’ll consult the Forth Ports website to check to see if any boats are in.
So eventually 12 of us met, ready to go at Longraig. Dave Towsey talked us through all of the baggage he carries in his boat, pointing out where the jelly babies were should a disaster befall him. We were then treated to a steam train crossing the Forth bridge before heading off (good planning!).
We had a gentle paddle along the coast up toward Cramond. Fortunately (for those of us who had forgotten sun screen & hats) the sun dissappeared behind a clound and a gentle breeze appeared to cool us down.
We stopped for some home made tablet (thanks Debbie!), and picked up some rubbish – I was dissappointed that the traffic cone didn’t make it home on Dougie’s head – and then had a quick trip up the river Almond before leaving the swans behind, turning our backs to the wind (and heads to the tide 😩).
One jelly baby stop was required to get us back to Longcraig, with no excitement other than a sea kayaker being contacted on channel 16 by a big ship (the Forth was a busy place!). Once back there was a very impressive roll from Stuart before we headed home.
Thanks for coming along – see you next time!
