Loch Hourn 19-21 July

We launched from Arnisdale at 5pm for an evening paddle after a spectacular drive over Mam Ratagan and identifying a camp spot. After paddling the inner Loch and Caolas Mor narrows up towards Rinuval we explored the very warm waters of Barrisdale Bay and the island at Mhuineil then back with great views of the Cuillin ridge by 9pm to camp at Corry Hall. On Sat we headed across to the South shore and south down into Sleat round the Knoydart peninsula and Slisneach down to Airor in great conditions. The SW then picked up and blew us back into Hourn where we chose the best point and lull to cross the mouth to the North, meeting a porpoise on the way. It was then North West back into the Sound of Sleat to wild camp at a perfect spot on the Sandaig Islands. The overnight SW squalls subsided as per forecast by 10am which was HW and no carry to launch easily and head direct into the windswell round the points and bays toward Hourn where the sea and wind funnelled in and gave us a great push back to Arnisdale by 2pm in beautiful weather. A super 1/2 day, day and 1/2 day paddle weekend. Amazing scenery and coast. Definitely to be repeated as a club trip and there are bunkhouse, mobile home and adjacent camping options for a larger group. Thanks to Ian for planning this (sorry you had to miss it) and Katerina for leading.
