Grade A Evening Paddle, Portobello, 30 April 2019

A little later than intended, here is the trip report.

A group of seven met up at Bedford Terrace for a trip organised by Charles Hamersley. Sadly the man himself had made the mistake of running a half marathon three days earlier and was forced to stay ashore.

Having been away from paddling for a year I was looking for a gentle, event-free, not-too-strenuous, slightly misty jaunt. Which is exactly what Charles had laid on. Six of us set off just before 7.00 from a near deserted beach in front of the Dalriada. No wind, no rain, no waves, no swell, no incidents.

Paddling towards Musselburgh the only issue was how shallow the water was. One curious seal popped up and kept a respectful distance. All safely back on the beach just after 8.30 p.m. All except Segar who demonstrated excellent rolling technique with half a dozen expertly executed manouevres.

Thanks Charles and fellow paddlers!

Richard
