  • LSKC – Corona virus

The SCA has issued corona virus guidance for clubs – https://www.canoescotland.org/coronavirus-guidance-for-clubs
It refers to the updated government guidance to avoid non – essential travel and non – essential contact with others, to fight the corona virus. The SCA has cancelled upcoming events until the end of April.

In the light of this guidance and to play our part in helping reduce the spread of the virus, we have regrettably had to decide to suspend all club activities at least until the end of April. This includes the Lismore paddle planned for this coming weekend. This would otherwise involve non essential travel and contact especially where car sharing was involved.

LSKC is also cancelling its remaining pool sessions. While the sessions involve relatively small groups, contact with others at and around the pool is unavoidable. We will give full refunds.

Individual LSKC members who wish to make use of club facilities – kayak hire, the website, etc – and set up their own paddles, may continue to do so. This is at their own risk, and they are advised to take account of current government guidance when deciding the size of group and whether to proceed.

The AGM has, as you know, been postponed for the time being. We cannot at present say when it might take place, but we will meantime make available the key information which would have been presented on 25th March.

We will review the situation in the coming weeks and consider whether we have to extend the suspension.

  • AGM Cancelled

Regrettably we have had to postpone our AGM, scheduled for 25th March. At present we do not know when it might take place, but will let you know as soon as we can,

    Best wishes

  • 3MenInBoats make it round Ireland!

    3MenInBoats make it round Ireland!

Rob, Ritchie and I paddled into Larne Harbour from the North at 915 am on Tuesday 11th June, having paddled out heading South on Sunday 21st April, 51 days before. We made it!!

Many, many thanks to all of you who have supported us throughout our 1600km trip- we really appreciate the donations, enthusiasm and interest shown. We’ll keep the website live for a while yet so you can get a flavour of the trip (3meninboats.com).We’ll put something together for a talk / slide show but in the meantime there’s some rather dank, smelly kit to sort out!

Ireland’s coasts, and especially the Irish people, are remarkable. If you are thinking about paddling there (and we all will be!) then please get in touch- we have digital and laminated mapping for the entire coast and the Irish paddlers’ network is truly amazing. We’d love to help you share some of what we have been privileged to experience,

  • 3meninboats.com Paddling in fresh Eire

    3meninboats.com

Ritchie Diaper, Rob Burgess and myself ( David Simpson) are setting off on Easter Sunday hoping ( praying?) to paddle around Ireland, if the weather and our ancient bodies let us. We’re raising money for Medecin Sans Frontiers and the RNLI – both superb organisations who get in where help is needed every time there’s a crisis. So if you want to support either or both do please donate- there’s a just giving page on our site. You can keep an eye on where we get to on our map page and if you are in Ireland do look us up – we’ll be the 3 kayaks going clockwise very very slowly!! Our website will include a blog and a gps tracker- visit 3meninboats.com

It is just coming up to the best bit of the year so I hope you all get out paddling and look forward to hearing what everyone has been up to in our absence.

Doubtless it’ll rain like stink over there whilst you all will be basking in glorious Scottish sunshine- happy paddling and do support these causes if you can!

  • LSKC AGM 2019 – 1900, Wednesday 27th March

LSKC’s AGM is a week away – at 1900 on Wednesday 27th March, at the Grange Club, Portgower Place, EH4 1HQ – (in Stockbridge, just off Raeburn Place)

    Papers for the AGM

Copies of the following can found on the new website www.lskc.org at Members’ Area>Resources>AGM, and are directly linked below:

    Talk

This year’s talk will be  by David Simpson (LSKC Committee and SCA President) – “Dramatic coast of Donegal in 2017, and round Ireland in 2019”

It’s a good social night – we keep formal process to a minimum.

    Supper

Afterwards there is a pot luck supper – it’s an excellent chance to catch up with folk over food and a drink. There is a reasonably priced bar, and tea/coffee will be provided. Anybody coming to the buffet should bring a small item of food (enough for yourself and one or two others) to share. All of this is then put together to create a pot luck supper after the main business of the evening is over.

    • If your surname starts A – M please bring something savoury.
    • If your surname starts N – Z please bring something sweet.

    Apologies

If you haven’t already, please let me know if you can come or not (to give an idea of numbers).

    Hope you will join us

  • LSKC AGM – 1900, Wednesday 27th March 2019

As you will know, LSKC’s 2019 AGM will be at 1900 on Wednesday 27th March, at the Grange Club, Stockbridge. If you haven’t done it already, put it in your diary now!
It’s for you, the club membership. It is the best chance you’ll get all year to have a chat with fellow members over some food and a few drinks, but still keep your feet dry. It’s a social occasion and your opportunity to exchange stories about last year’s adventures and start planning activities for 2019. It’s a popular gathering, for all paid up members.
It’s also your chance to have a say in the club’s future direction. But, as always, the aim is to keep the formal proceedings to a minimum and have a good evening.
Full details coming soon, but be sure to keep the evening free!

    Regards

  • Spring Talk dates- Dalriada Pub- 16th January, 21 February, 21 March 2019- 7.30pm

After the inspiration of Erik Boomer and Sarah McNair Landry, which raised £624 for the Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing Charity, you can look forward to the New Year Dalriada pub talks.

I am finalising the next series of informative and entertaining events that are……..the LSKC Dalriada Pub Talks.

We will have a talk from a couple of Conservation experts about plastic ( a manufactured event if ever there was one…), various people displaying their favourite bits of kit ,  how to stay safe and  out of trouble ( while on the water- the rest is up to you!), and doubtless will reprise some of the favourite sessions on tides, weather, navigation.

I’ll post these dates and details up once I have speakers arms twisted/ confirmed- in the meantime put the dates in the diary (last year we had to remove the furniture on one occasion). Where I anticipate a large demand I will arrange our secret alternative venue….watch this space.
