  • 2019 AGM – 27th March – Date for your diary.

LSKC’s 2019 AGM will be at 1900 on Wednesday 27th March, at the Grange Club, Stockbridge. Put it in your diary now!
This is above all a social occasion, with the opportunity to meet other members, enjoy some food and drink, swap tales about last year’s exploits and plan for the year ahead. It’s a popular gathering and as always the aim is to keep the formal proceedings to a minimum.
More details nearer the time, but make sure to keep the evening free!

  • Into Twin Galaxies

The talk by Sarah McNair Landry and Erik Boomer was a great success, with a good turnout. Sarah and Erik gave a gripping description of their adventures, accompanied with some incredible pictures and film footage.

In total we raised £624 for the Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing.

This was a joint venture between Lothian Sea Kayak Club and Edinburgh Kayak Club and we’d like to say a special thanks to David Simpson for all of his hard work in planning the event, Mel & Rod for the catering, and all of you who supported the evening through ticket sales and donations.

  • Erik Boomer and Sarah McNair Landry – Into Twin Galaxies – 9th November 2018

Erik Boomer and Sarah McNair Landry – Into Twin Galaxies – 9th November 2018

An epic ski journey across the Greenland Ice Cap to kayak a river from source to the Arctic Ocean. Sarah and Erik will be joining LSKC and EKC to recount the story of their recent expedition.

    Venue: Portobell and Joppa church
    Time: 7:30, 9th November 2018

Sarah and Erik have a truly remarkable record of  expedition and adventure exploits. They will talk about their multi award winning expedition across the Greenland Ice Cap (‘Into the Twin Galaxies’) kite skiing with kayaks, and then paddling from glacial source to sea, over, under and down a river whose existence they had to first establish. Exploration and honesty conveyed with clarity insight and craftmanship – one of the most remarkable journeys I have ever witnessed.

Tickets are available on Eventbrite (https://into_twin_galaxies.eventbrite.co.uk), or on the door.

Concessions £10 student / U18 available on the door

Proceeds will be donated to charity – the Edinburgh Taxi Trade Children’s Outing – in memory of Robert Jackson.

  • Wet Sessions, Comfort Zone and now Moving on.

Well done to everyone who took part in the wet sessions and also the comfort zone events. There clearly is an appetite for putting yourselves out there.

Would anyone be interested in taking part in a Sea Kayak Leader training? This was formerly known as 4 star.              My idea is to run a weekend course which shadows the Sea kayak leader training.

This would not be a formal course but designed so that you can experience the standards required for leader training. If you then decide to move onto formal leader training there are club members who will assist you with your Sea Kayak Leader journey.

  • Freya Hoffmeister – “Think Bigger – Survived”

Freya Hoffmeister – “Think Bigger – Survived”

LSKC hosted a fantastic evening with Freya Hoffmeister in the Portobello and Joppa Parish Church. Freya spoke about her circumnavigation of South America, entertaining us with tales of wildlife and storms. 114 hardy souls braved the winter weather to attend.

Thanks to David for organising the event, and to Rod and Mel for organising refreshments.
