Evening Paddle, North Berwick – Tuesday 7 August
Eight of us met on the beach at North Berwick harbour. Katerina held a briefing session before we set off and it was agreed that the conditions (excellent visibility, light breeze and a slight chop) meant that Fidra would be our destination. Katerina, Graham, Catherine, Angus, Paul, John, Fraser and myself set off at 19:00 heading west towards a setting sun and Fidra silhouetted in the distance.
Despite paddling into the breeze and the incoming tide, a relentless pace was maintained ensuring a fast passage to Fidra which was circumnavigated anti clockwise. A brief exploration of the cave on the north side under the watchful eye of the local wildlife was followed by a visit to the beach at Yellowcraigs for a short break as the sun began to go down.
Then it was a quick paddle back to the harbour helped by the incoming tide and the limited swell.
We all landed safely before dusk and with a shorter carry back to the cars. Thanks to Katerina for organising.
