Evening Paddle, South Queensferry – Tuesday 14 Aug

Festival themed trip report: Queens Hall Piano and Cello Duo, South Queensferry Quartet: Fiona, Nick, David and Jane. Forecast SW 4-6. Like some Beethoven pieces the waves behind Hawes pier were gentle and melodious. Once out beyond the breakwater it was more like Chopin (apologies) with waves coming from several different directions and the wind in our faces. Making progress under the new bridge was hard, like Rachmaninov the waves occasionally surprised and the current made us work harder. But we made it up to ?Abercorn Point with distant views of Blackness Castle. A convenient fallen tree provided a perch for our snack, and we headed home to the encore of Debussy: wind behind us, favourable waves, slightly more relaxed paddling getting us back in possibly a third of the time, and just as darkness fell. A good evening paddle, many thanks to Fiona for leading, and not cancelling it, and enjoyed by all. (Applause…) (Sorry no photos)
