Four Days from Colintraive

A relaxed 4-day paddle from Colintraive, aimed at building confidence for less experienced paddlers—and it worked a treat. Distances stayed under 25 km, with a nice mix of conditions from flat calm to a breezy F4 to keep things interesting.

Route highlights included Ardlamont Point (Cowal Peninsula), Glencallum Bay on Bute, and Ardlamont Bay. Landings were generally straightforward around mid–high tide, but low tide brought the challenge of big, slippery boulders—worth planning for.

Gerry kept things running smoothly throughout, sharing plenty of useful paddling and kayak camping tips along the way. The group quickly settled into a good rhythm: paddle, land, set up camp, then gather round the fire for food, chat, and the occasional dram.

Wildlife didn’t disappoint—regular dolphin sightings and even an otter. Two stops at Five West café in Tighnabruaich were another highlight and highly recommended.

A thoroughly enjoyable and confidence-boosting few days on the water.

 Many thanks to Gerry.
