Six members undertook a four day expedition in the Mull area
Idyllic weather meant the group could paddle from the Ulva ferry terminal on the second day all the way to Lunga Island in the Treshnish via Gometra and the islands of Cairn na Burgh Beg. We camped on Lunga near the landing place for the penguins on the Island named Corran Lunga on the OS map, no midges and a nice walk up to see the Penguins up close in the permitted path.
The next day saw us head to the Dutchmans cap and then on to Staffa island itself, the great weather made the 6km open crossing easy and we were able to visit all the caves on the island and land at the beach near the RSPB jetty, the jetty itself was under construction (workers arriving by helicopter) so no visitors were allowed so we had an unusually quiet visit to Fingals cave.
We returned to Ulva Ferry via Little Colonsay island and the south coast of Ulva
The next day we completed a circumnavigation of Iona island from the well know Fidden campsite, again weather was perfect and little swell, even in these conditions the south point of Iona island required some care.
This was a super paddle taking advantage of perfect conditions, it was very exposed and one could see the potential for either paddle to become very difficult if weather changed.
